The Clinical Use of Bronchoscopic Laser Surgery

Abstract

|
Therapeutic bronchoscopy took on new dimensions with the addition of laser technology in the early 1970's. Tissue destruction could be obtained without bleeding by the use of laser and better visual field made the endoscopic operation more
precise
and
definitive. This technique was first reported by Polanyi in 1970 and got popularity by the development of ventilating bronchoscopy. In 1982 universal endoscopic coupler was developed and it made the laser bronchoscopic surgery more simple and
safe.
In our department, CO2 laser bronchoscope has been used since 1988 and endotracheal mass lesions and stenotic lesions were treated by this method. We found that laser bronchoscopic technique was very useful, so we report our experiences in CO2
laser
bronchoscopy and treatment results of endotracheal lesions.
